Paglalaro Ng Video Games Nakakapayat Sa Matatabang Bata?

Good news to all parents out there because according to a new study done by the experts, playing video games may help their obese children to lose weight.

According to a study presented in Pediatric Obesity, special exercise video games help overweight children lose weight and improve their cholesterol and blood pressure while having fun.

As a matter of fact, the lead author of the study from the Pennington Biomedical Research Center at Louisiana State University, Amanda Staiano, said that it’s better to let kids do what they want like playing video games than to forbid it.

“The kids nowadays are really interested in playing video games and some even spend time playing it in a week. So, instead of blaming games and technology, it makes sense to see how these video games can help them,” said Staiano.

Furthermore, the lead author explained that our body becomes input into the game through an infrared sensor. It constantly reads what your body is doing, and you make points that control the player on the screen with your own body.

“The video games help children to bring out their competitive side in a variety of exercises,” she added.

According to Staiano, in order to make the program more effective, it includes weekly conversations with a coach via the Internet.

“It helped keep the kids physically fit for work purposes. Other groups have given children’s home games only to find that the children have stopped playing after a few weeks,” Staiano pointed out.

Moreover, she suggested that children are encouraged to play video games at home with their friends or family members because studies have shown that children spend more energy when they are playing with another person.

Meanwhile, Dr. Tammy Brady, Medical Director of the Pediatric Hypertension Program at Johns Hopkins Medicine in Baltimore, Maryland, said that the new study encourages us to think out of the box and realizing more that we need to meet kids halfway.

“Maybe we need to be more inventive and pay attention to what children are doing and adapt our methods to what is interesting to them,” said Brady.

“I think this is very promising in terms of the outcomes they were able to get in a short time,” he added.

So, to all parents out there, don’t be so hard on your overweight children on their hobbies, instead, support them because studies have shown that playing video games have benefits in their health.
